Membership

Membership in Digital Medievalist is open to anyone with an interest in its subject matter, without regard to skill or previous experience in Digital Humanities or Medieval Studies. Participants range from novices contemplating their first project to many of the pioneers in our field.

How to sign up

You can become a member of Digital Medievalist by subscribing to the Digital Medievalist electronic mailing list, <dm-l>. There are over a thousand members on <dm-l>. Members use the list to ask for advice, discuss problems, and share information. The collegial atmosphere of <dm-l> encourages a variety of conversations: from advanced discussions of problems in the implementation of particular languages or software to more basic questions about how to begin a computing project or find help with software, languages, and formats. Subscription is open to anyone interested in the use of digital media in the study of the medieval period. All subscribers become members of Digital Medievalist.

You can view the archives of <dm-l> without becoming a member. Archived posts between 2022-2023 may be viewed on the University of Lethbridge servers; for posts from 2024, please visit the <dm-l> page on JiscMail.

Your personal data – what is it?

Personal data relates to a living individual who can be identified from that data. Identification can be by the information alone or in conjunction with any other information in the data controller’s possession or likely to come into such possession. Digital Medievalist is the data controller (contact details below). This means it decides how your personal data (email address) is processed and for what purposes.

How do we process your personal data?

Digital Medievalist complies with its obligations under the GDPR by keeping personal data (email address) up to date; by storing and destroying it securely; by not collecting or retaining excessive amounts of data; by protecting personal data (email address) from loss, misuse, unauthorised access and disclosure and by ensuring that appropriate technical measures are in place to protect personal data (email address). We use your personal data (email address) solely to keep you informed about the community and its news, events, and activities.

Sharing your personal data

Your personal data (email address) will be treated as strictly confidential, and will never be shared with third parties without your consent. For the purposes of IT hosting and maintenance this information is located on servers outside the European Union, but no 3rd parties have access to your personal data (email address).

How long do we keep your personal data?

We keep your personal data (email address) only as long as you subscribe to the Digital Medievalist mailing list. If you want to opt out of the mailing list, please get in touch with <dm-l> moderators or unsubscribe directly on JiscMail, and all your data will be deleted from the system.

Your rights and your personal data

If at any point you believe the information we process on you is incorrect you can request to see this information and have it corrected or deleted. If you wish to raise a complaint on how we have handled your personal data, you can contact us to have the matter investigated.
